DER STEIRER

Hans Weitzer (centre) was very busy running his wine bar back in 1910, the bar where DER STEIRER is located today. But he knew how to enjoy himself too, and took great delight in spending time in the company of his guests, sitting down together to share in delicious food and drink.
DER STEIRER follows in his footsteps: gemütlichkeit is our watchword. Our aim is to make you feel completely at home, savouring the taste of traditional Styrian (or “steirisch”, as the locals say) cuisine and our almost limitless selection of wine. DER STEIRER serves the traditional, authentic taste of Styria in all its rich variety. Our concept of Styrian cuisine goes beyond the boundaries of the region, however. THE BREADED FRIED CHICKEN
Breaded fried chicken has been a Viennese speciality since the 18th century.
o make it, a ready-to-cook chicken is seasoned with salt, pepper and lemon juice before it is cut into pieces, separating the two breasts, the two joints and the two wings. The pieces are then dusted with flour, dipped in the beaten egg yolk and finally rolled in the breadcrumbs, and the chicken is then fried in plenty of butter or oil.
